Morning Sketches :: Few Warm-ups

Looks like I'm not that into posting any new stuff on the intertnet anymore. hmm.. At least not as frequently as before. I was thinking of removing all my work online, cos it doesn't actually give me any avail. Especially after getting into a video game industry and working with copywrighted materials.. But friends kept telling me that deleting everything on internet would be not a good solution. So, I'm leaving this old crap to hang on and hope to get back from time to time to post some scraps.
After 5 months of hard work, I guess I can tell that getting into KOEI was a good decision. I really can't bitch about it - every day is a learning new stuff day. And learning new stuff makes me feel really good. Working with textures, 3D modelling, designs I never imagined I'd work with, and etc.. Even when I'm dead tired sometimes, knowing I'm in the right direcion encourages me to stay cool and move forward.
Oh, btw, I've signed in for some extra drawing sessions once a week. We have a great young female ballet-dancer as a model. I'll see if there's a chance to post some of the sketches here later.

Life :: Changes

Ok. I've been really silent for the last couple of months. And I have quite a story to tell.. But I believe you're here not for the bedtime stories, right? So I'll just try to skip all the crap and make it short.

First, I got my PC crashed and the big part of data was lost. Lucky me, eh? Remember the "Space Tale" comic I was working on lately? - GONE. Anyways, I'm looking forward to getting a new machine till autumn, cos drawing on a bussiness class laptop is a bitch :| So stop poking me and be patient till I post something new XO

In other news.. Finally, I managed to graduate my Art Academy and got a job as a character concept artist/graphic designer at KOEI - a Japanese video game company.

Of course, all the info is strictly confidential - "what happens in KOEI, stays in KOEI". So the only thing I can tell you guys for now, is that currently I'm working on the "Warriors: Legends of Troy" project. Here's the announcement trailer:

The game will be out in 2010.

Drawing Night :: Seku Seku Pasaka

A little illustration for an on-going on-line Lithuanian graphic tale - Seku Seku Pasaką. The fun part - anyone understanding that magical story may continue it!

The woman in cloak is death. She's threatening the king to take away his life unless he completes her three wishes. The sakura's blossom was a totall coincidence.. But it turned out with a point. For Japanese sakura symbolizes fleetingness of human life. And for Chinese - Feminine beauty.

Few evenings for this one. Turned out quite rational.. I know. And sketchy too.
Drawings like these need lots of time to work those details out..

Favorite :: Colors

I was just making a recess, drinking coffee at 3:00 am (having a tough night).. and found this "Top Five Favorite Colors" picker on Facebook. So... finally I made a confession to myself - which ones are the actual colors that make me go slightly crazy:

100% black, 30% black, white, RGB yellow and RGB magenta

The point is, I got some fresh ideas for my future work* and hope to use this pallet. Wha!
I guess SOMETIMES silly fun things might not just waste your time - ass-backwards! :]

Space Tale :: pg.5-6 Preview

My minicomic "Space Tale" is almost done. I've decided not to agonize with it too much. Most of the artists like sketches for their loose fruition and energy. So do I (...). This is the final look of pages 5-6 after a little bit of experimenting with colors (sketchy though, but I kinda like it this way). Hope you dig it.

I think this is enough for the "sneak peek'ing". Next time I'm willing to post the whole deal.

Censored :: Crap

Odd moments. It doesn't take long to make a simple doodle while chatting with your buddies, and there's only bonuses like a good quick exercise, experience, abilaty to try out some styles and etc..
I do scrabble quite a lot of crappy doodles that goes hiden in some dark places or right into the bin. Every artist draw crap time to time,- while warming up the wrist, working out some concepts, making practical jokes on some web forums (just like I used to), and so on.. Of course, most of em' just don't show it on galleries and blogs.

Etude :: Cherry Blossom

No supermegaawesome composition, no special fx - just a sketch.

Got inspired by some eastern instrumental (pipa and guzheng) music. I found it very reassuring and joyful lately.. It helps me to concentrate. You may check out some eg. here:
